Kinja'd!!!

Hello, and welcome back to everyone's favorite mid-morning post about neckties on Oppo, Tie-lopnik! Today will be a special Friday double-feature! First, here is a little tie-rectory (huehuehue) of the knots we have covered so far:

The Shelby:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The Four-in-Hand:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The Trinity:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The Double Windsor:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Now, on to today's double features: The Van Wijk knot (picture above) and the Prince Albert knot (picture below) . These two knots are quite similar to one another, with the Van Wijk just requiring one extra step. They are both tall and asymmetrical knots, and I don't like wearing them, because people are like "why is your tie knot 1/3 of your height?". That being said, they are both rather fancy and could probably be pulled off by some sophisticated european man who likes to drink cognac and make sophisticated hand motions while he explains to you why the Blanc grape is obviously superior to the Colombard.

Van Wijk-

Advantages: people will assume you drink cognac, quite fancy, unusual and rare, looks good on striped or patterned ties

Disadvantages: people will assume you drink cognac, over the top, a little too whimsical, uses a lot of fabric (tall people, stay away)

Prince Albert-

Advantages: actually looks pretty good, a toned down version of the Van Wijk, says "I drink cognac but I'm not a snob about it", still rare and unusual, moderately sized knot (still a bit tall), uses less fabric than the Van Wijk

Disadvantages: it's called the Prince Albert, still uses a good bit of fabric, not a very firm or secure knot when compared to traditional knots like the Windsor, it's called the Prince Albert, still might be out of place in an office environment (not as bad as the Van Wijk, though)

doesn't look bad. For some reason this looks lazy though to me. That is an interesting tie though, makes it look better. Got any paisleys and a good knot for them? (request!)

Welp, I learned something this morning....that another day of tying a Shelby is in order. not so sure about those, but, there could be a time and place.

I have so many paisley ties, it's weird lol. idk why, I just really like paisley...as far as knots, since paisley is a pretty busy pattern, I would go with a relatively simple knot...probs a half windsor or a shelby. Next week, I'll do some paisleys.

also, what do you mean looks lazy? Like, the knot isn't all tight and stuff? I think it looks better that way, (at least the Van Wijk), otherwise its so skinny and so tall...

Haha, I try to mix it up by doing both conventional and unconventional knots. You could wear the Prince Albert though. If you tie it snug, it doesn't stick out that much. Try it. Avoid the Van Wijk, lol.

Monday will be a conventional and office-popular knot.

I like that first one. You should do a step by step photo on these. The only one I know how to tie is the double windsor. I might try the Trinity some time as I find it to be kinda cool looking. I think I could pull off the Van Wijk. I could drink cognac (anything you give me), my wife says i'm unusual (maybe not in those words) I have a European last name and I can criticize the hell of of architecture which makes me sound kinda fancy.

Do you make sophisticated hand motions while criticizing architecture? If so, you are set.

no just the knot itself, like someone wrapped the tie around itself 2 or 3 times and called it good :)

I'll plan accordingly, there are many paisley's in the QLC tie collection.
